Coral Bay is a less busy town than Cruz Bay (the other popular town on St. John), but offers a great experience in its own way. Of course, the fact that it’s surrounded by the beautiful vistas of the island of St. John certainly helps it out! If you want a taste of old St. John then Coral Bay is for you, due to the fact that it used to be St. John’s main commercial center but was overtaken by Cruz Bay (mostly due to the introduction of a ferry service to that town). It’s the ultimate escape from the more “touristy” parts of USVI.
To get to romantic little Coral Bay, you’ll have to head across the island from Cruz Bay. This is certainly doable. Once you get there, you’ll surely enjoy the quaint stores, restaurants (such as Skinny Legs and the Donkey Diner), and laid-back M.O. of the residents. The town is also famous for its old Moravian Church, which is said to be haunted. Keep in mind that the roads of Coral Bay are steep and have some hairpin turns, so try not to get nervous if you’re driving.
