Emancipation Garden is a quaint lovely park located within St. Thomas of the Virgin Islands. The garden was erected to commemorate the freeing of the slaves in July 3, 1848. It is located near the waterfront in Charlotte Amalie, adjacent to Post Office Square, Fort Christian, and Main Street. Within the gardens lies a lovely bandstand that is often used for concert throughout the year. Emancipation Garden is renowned for inauguration ceremonies for the Virgin Island. If you are in the area, the garden also hosts yearly Carnival celebrations. Otherwise, just relax while you shop at one of many kiosks at the Vendor’s Plaza.
