Lindbergh Bay Beach, also known as Emerald Beach due to its beauty, is one popular beach on the island of St. Thomas. It’s about a nine-minute drive from downtown Charlotte Amalie to the picturesque white sands, gorgeous water, and tall palm trees of Lindbergh Bay. Unlike a beach such as Magens Bay, Emerald Beach is usually sparsely populated making it an idyllic “out of the way” beach that still benefits from close proximity to Charlotte Amalie and the airport. Sometimes it can get more crowded when cruise ships come in (it’s close to the dock) – if you are a cruise ship passenger, you’ll probably end up at Emerald Beach due to the short and cheap taxi ride.
The beach is named for Charles Lindbergh, the famous aviator, and is home to the Island Beachcomber Hotel and Emerald Beach Hotel, both great places to stay with all the amenities and excellent views. Even if you’re not staying at one of the hotels, you can still visit their bars for a refreshing Piña Colada. If you’re interested in trying out some water sports, there’s a water sports booth on the beach which offers access to kayaks and windsurfing, as well as snorkeling equipment.
